the best in Real Estate Representation in San Carlos
San Carlos
is in the Mexican state of Sonora and is one of the most beautiful
areas in the Gulf of California, it is a place where the desert
meets the sea. The Gulf of California has had other names
over time… Golfo de California in Spanish and Sea of
Cortez or Mar de Cortés and also Mar Bermejo (Portuguese)
because of the occasional red tide that forms. It is a body
of water that separates the Peninsula of Baja California from
the Mexican mainland; the Sea of Cortez is bordered by the
states of Baja California Norte, Baja California Sur, Sonora,
Sinaloa, and Nayarit.
Francisco
de Ulloa, a Spanish explorer, named this body of water in
honor of the conquistador Hernán Cortés in 1539.
The name "Gulf of California" predominates in most
English language maps. The name "Mar de Cortés"
tends to be the name used by area residents.
This
beautiful body of water is classified as a Mediterranean sea
because it is almost closed off to the ocean. Its length and
width make it very peculiar in the sense that by bordering
semi-desert areas it will have great seasonal variations in
surface temperatures. During the summer months the surface
water will rise to about 82F and in winter it will be only
55F. This variation in temperature allows for a grand diversity
of plant and animal life.
